My name is Adea Gafuri, I am a postdoctoral researcher at Utrikespolitiska Institutet based in Stockholm. I recently completed my Ph.D. in the Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg, in Gothenburg of Sweden. I hold a Master of Arts in Political Science from Sabanci University in Istanbul.

In my Ph.D. dissertation, I analyze the role of foreign aid from both democratic and autocratic countries and its impact on the democratization processes of developing countries. I also study the attitudes of citizens and elites toward donors with autocratic and democratic characteristics and what this can mean for their support for democracy.

Previously, I have conducted fieldwork in the countries of the Western Balkans on EU integration with regard to democracy assistance and democratization processes.

I am also affiliated with the Varieties of Democracy Institute (V-Dem) at Gothenburg University and the AidData Institute at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.

My work has been published in Democratization and East European Politics.
